A Wish Come True

It’s Christmas Eve 2016

I put out the milk and cookies

When I wake up, I roll up my sleeves

to eat what Moms been cooking

I looked at the gifts, filled with cheer because Santa Claus had been here

That was my wish

My wish was for Santa to pay me a visit and eat from his cookie dish

It’s Christmas Eve 2021

Stockings and garland nicely hung

Santa had turned into Mom and Dad, and wishes into wants

Milk and cookies out like normal

Pjs on, not very formal

It’s 9:00pm, and the lights are out

Mom says not to go out and scout

I sit there with the fan running, and shadows on the ceiling

Pondering about what I’ve been feeling

My 2021 wish has come to mind; it was to feel happy and alive

Now it’s Christmas morning 2024

I heard a knock at the door

It wasn’t the Polar Express train

But the smell of casserole that filled my brain

The table was filled with good food

Mom says to wait and not be rude

It was time to open my first gift

I give it a shake and a lift

I take a minute to look around, realizing I am no longer feeling drowned

My 2021 wish has come true, all thanks to Jesus, I love you
