Wishes
I am a teenager.
I usually don’t care
About anything.
But I wish I did.
I am a voter.
I can help make decisions
About prom fundraisers,
But I have no real power
With decisions that really matter.
I am a scientist.
I learn, study, experiment,
But I receive no respect
For my effort; im treated like a child.
I wish I wasn’t underestimated.
I am an I.T. expert.
I know more about computers
Than the generation before me.
But I can’t help; some
Teachers won’t take it.
I wish they would.
I am driver.
The state trusts me
To be responsible on the road,
But my school doesn’t even trust me in the halls.
I wish I could be seen as the grown up I am.
I am a student.
Even though my school and I disagree,
We do agree that my education is important.
And I wish
that as long as neither of us lose sight of that,
We’ll both do just fine
