Wishing We Were Waking

Go to bed, Counting sheep. Slow your mind, Fall asleep, Drift around, In make believe. Changing all, Of reality. Is this real? Or is this fake? New ideas, Taking shape. Fantasies, Within reach. Pushing limits, Of what we teach. Here we are, In a perfect world. With shooting stars, And a perfect girl. Feeling good, Feeling great, It's a shame, We're not awake. Lying in bed, But miles apart. No quick fix, For shaken hearts. Day in, Day out, We scream, And we shout. Wishing we were, Waking up, From the nightmares we've been, Dreaming of. Things that seem so, Real to us, Are just shadows of, Unconsciousness. But I'm just wishing. Entire days, Without words. Reading eyes, And watching birds. It's so painful, To watch you slip, From the absence, Of my lips. Hours pass, Suns fall. We prep ourselves, For the long haul. Is this what love, Is all about? Then you scream, And I shout. Before we met, I dreamt of you. Told myself, The things I'd do. We were destined, From the start, To be a mess, And fall apart. Wishing we were, Waking up, From the nightmares we've been, Dreaming of. Things that seem so, Real to us, Are just shadows of, Unconsciousness. But I'm just wishing. But people change, That's nothing new. Memories remain, Fueling the burn inside, Of every moment, Watching the world, Crumble before our eyes. Knowing that this, All will pass, Uncertain of, Which path. Neither road, Leads to bliss, Or feelings of, Happiness. What can I say? What can you do? Both of us, Afraid to choose. Torture ourselves, With words not said, Then the night comes, And we go to bed. The dreams we have, Are what we were. The feelings we had, Are still alive and, Pour into our, Unconsciousness. But leave us with, Our ignorance. Wishing we were, Waking up, From the nightmares we've been, Dreaming of. Things that seem so, Real to us, Are just shadows of, Unconsciousness. But I'm just wishing.
