Within the doors of the mind

I am never alone, none of us are

with this vital piece

our identity is not far.

These doors hide

images, sounds, smells, tastes, touches and more

the senses remember well

on a deserted island, far away from many.

Our memories guide us.

Our memories define who we are.

My memories are what I cannot live without.

Of the pains and joys,

of the people and places

I refuse to live without.

Down memory lane lies

friends long gone,

those passed to the other side,

of times that grant us strength

and times of weakness.

Neither you nor I, can live without

the balance

of words said,

of mistakes amended,

of another's care.

Memories transcending, memory lane cracking

I grasp tightly to the friend, the soul that watches over I.
