Without the Beat
The music is what feeds my soul.
Without a constant rhythm,
my body and mind do not function.
I need the constant flow of pitch
coursing through my veins.
Upon its absence, all emotion dissipates.
I now have nothing left.
I am an empty cavern
hoping for a stream
to begin to flow in me.
I wish for the moment
I hear a small drip
or the chirp of a creature –
little and susceptible to all kinds of danger.
I need that beat the music brings.
Maybe it’s my own heart.
I am dead without the beat.
