Without Filters

Look right, look left, tilt your head up, smile wide,

Always show off your best side.

Who are we beneath it all?

Would it be so bad if we let the mask fall?

I am smart and intelifent, but I fear people fear me

I fear that they cannot see beyong what I believe.

Without filters, I'm broken like a falling star

Without filters, I'm covered with shining invisible scars

Without filters I hate punctuation

Without filters, my cheeks are red as carnations.

Without filters, I sing loud in the shower

Without filters, from conflict I cower

Without filters, my words sound disjointed,

And my actions leave some disappointed.

Without filters I am a dreamer

And with every breath I praise my redeemer

Yet, I fear without a filter I am vulnerable

Or perhaps a little less lovable

Yes, I know that these are ridiculuous fears

Then why do we all clutch our filters near?

I swear to you that I will let mine fall

If you too will take down your wall.
