Without Regret
Do not let go with regret in your hearts,
For regret weighs most heavily,
As does your guilt, your fault, your hate,
With all the burning Sun's intensity.
And when you can no longer move,
When it all becomes too much too soon-
That's when you fall, that's when you drown,
And that's when you lose.
Every moment, no matter how small, how supposedly insignificant,
Matters and is worth the world,
For that looked-over moment is another breath wasted,
Another memory that of happiness, contentment, unfurled.
When you give up and shut that door,
The lock becomes broken and permanent, and everything stills
Into nothing, into darkness,
Into that perpetual feeling of hopelessness that to the brink your heart fills.
But, to stay away from the dark,
To keep it at bay and bask forever in light-
That's an impossibility that no one can overlook,
That no one can hope to accomplish, not even those with the greatest of might.
So just know this:
That every cut, every hateful word, every door locked,
Is every battle you have, to Life, to those hateful people, lost,
And a new scar to be added to a heart long since blocked.
Words of comfort, of hope,
Are not what we want to hear:
We just want to know that we are heard,
And that we matter, even when the world says otherwise, and that we are dear.
When we go, we want this at least, so that even if
The Gates of the Heaven we so long ago have stopped believing in
Turn us away- that we at least know that, if God would not have us,
There was someone, here, that loved us even when drenched in our sin.
At least then we'll go without true fear,
Without a reason to cry and rage,
Without reason to be afraid of those Angels that look upon us with scorn,
Without reason to crumble into nothing and even in death find ourselves in a metal cage.
