Witness to the Hate
There I sat watching as it unraveled before my eyes,
the truth of this wicked world.
A group of vicious beast attacking the lonely and innocent.
Why was he being attacked? Why are they doing this?
Those vile words of hatred spilled out their mouths,
like sharp daggers striking the heart. With each blow,
I see his soul, fading away.
Tears falling towards the ground, no rain to hide it.
Why him? What had he done to offend them?
Was it because of the color of his skin? The religion he believed in?
Was it because of his sexuality? Was it because of the way he dressed?
No matter what the reason is, I cannot sit here and watch
I do not want to witness the suffering of others.
It would be easier to turn my back on this and walk away,
erase the painful image from my mind.
NO! I cannot do that.
I stand, I will defend
Protect the precious thing we call life.
No more tears will be shed, no cruel words will be thrown
I stand to face the beasts, to protect the boy I don't even know.
I will fight this battle to help win the war,
no blood will be shed.
The great Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King JR. had taught me the power
Soul Force, nonviolence is the way to win.
