The Wolves

I wasn't always a monster,

And I didn't always destroy everything I ever touched.

Don't understand that I hate this burden so much?

Don't you understand that I don't want to be controlled by rage?

I don't want to live among these wolves,

And all I really want to do is change.

There are wolves among us hiding deep within our minds,

We can give them control or force them back inside.

They take your breath but dictate your voice,

You can become a wolf but that is your choice.

The wolves are the ones who hide among us waiting to strike,

They prey upon the innocent hoping to unleash their beasts.

We all hide beasts that we never want to let others see,

Think of the things we would do if the monster was set free.

I wasn't always a monster,

And I didn't always destroy everything I ever touched.

Don't understand that I hate this burden so much?

Don't you understand that I don't want to be controlled by rage?

I don't want to live among these wolves,

And all I really want to do is change.

We don't have to be wolves living on our instinct,

We can be human beings if only we think.

Our actions hurt others and our words break more than bone,

If you're fighting the wolf within then know that you're not alone.

The wolves are not going to take us over one by one,

Because if this is a war then they will never win.

We all hide beasts but they aren't the only part of us,

As humans we have love, hope, wisdom, and trust.

I am no longer going to be a monster,

And I will build others up instead of breaking them.

Please understand that I am better than I once was.

Please understand that my anger is replaced with hope.

I won't let anyone live life as one of the wolves,

This is called change.
