This Woman Is

Who is this woman walking down the street?

She carries her groceries with a baby strapped to her back

She keeps her small children tucked safely beside her

She provides for her children

She is strength

Who is this woman in the boardroom?

She pitches her idea that she has worked tirelessly

She keeps her composure when she is passed over or patronized

She gathers details and synchronizes her responses

She is strength

Who is this woman at the bus stop?

She remembers generations that have come and gone

She understands the pain and joy of building a family, only to be left alone

She nurses aching joints that come from years of satisfying hard work

She is strength

Who are these women we see every day?

They are you

They are me

They are your mother, and her mother

They are strength
