Womanhood

Becoming a woman, a woman of color in fact.

Opens a chapter, that I didn’t expect.

Now being taught to hold my head up high and have confidence,

in my stride. I am a black woman, born of those who took it all so,

that I wouldn’t have to. Feel the strength and pain run through my veins as,

my heart pumps the blood of my anscestors.

It’s only now that I come to realize that, as a woman.

More importantly, as a woman of color, that I come from royalty.

It may not be the royalty as you know but, the royalty of

Love, hope, forgiveness, and greatness.
