A Wonderful World
We sometimes may feel
That the world
Is moving backwards
We talk about hate
Love and racism
We learn about history
The evils of our past
And sometimes we wonder
Why so much bad?
Why does it seem
That more racism exists
The more we try to stop it?
Why does love
Cease to exist?
Why is there hatred
And fear and fighting?
Where has the peace
So desperately needed, gone?
My mind is constantly fraught with
Two sides vying for my attention
I feel for both,
But is there a place
For me in the middle?
I see two opposites
Pulling on a rope
Neither giving in,
And neither giving up
They refuse to see eye to eye
And yet my heart yearns
For them to come together
I discuss and I learn
About both of those sides
I try to make
An opinion of my own
But where do I fit in?
I sometimes wonder,
Do others feel the same?
Do they struggle
To find a balance between the sides?
I often search for a remedy
That will melt the divide
I find there is little to none
But that small piece
That one answer
Is what we all need
It is simply love
Love drives out the hatred
Without hate
There is no racism
Or separation and fighting
Letting love and peace guide us
Will be our only hope
I do my best
To be kind and loving
But sometimes it is hard
To love those who hate
My heart is anguished
When I see their souls
Full of hostility
That will never abate
I wish so hard
For them to understand
That only by closing the divide
Can we come to together
And in harmony we stand
But how can I
As a young person
With no voice
Loud enough to hear
Make a difference?
How can I change
My country
If I am just
One person?
I can walk with others
And make a difference
We can all walk
With hope towards a better future
I can share my hope
And I can show my love
I have to take the steps
Towards progress
If I want others to see
And share the goodness
I can make this world
A wonderful world to live in
