Wordlessness

The mystery of a dream is that
it carries a glimmer of understanding
that cannot be voiced.

The dilemma of words is that
most will never do,
and metaphors will never completely satisfy.

I placed my hand in yours
and remembered a flash of a dream,
yet I did not remember.
I saw the apparition of dream-image
yet did not fully see.
Do you not understand?
How can you know my sheer contentmentwhen I cannot even find the precise words?

I wonder if a smile could speak what I feel—
if you could look upon my face
and see into these yearning eyes
and know.

Do not mistake my silence for indifference;
know that it is in this wordlessness
that love is at its greatest.

I am bad at voicing my feelings. I have a hard time formulating thoughts on the dime, and end up stuttering and feeling stupid. But sometimes I feel such depth in a moment and need to express it. It is in poetry that I find the freedom to expres things in a way I could never do with my voice. This poem depicts that need, and pleas for the reciever to not misunderstand my silence in the moments where spoken word is not enough.
