The Word(s)

What I need, what I require.

By what I am persuaded, what I desire.

What without possessing I would expire.

The Word.

The obligation I have in this world,

Is not one to be lightly twirled.

My compulsion is not to be trifled with,

And despite what people think, it is not a myth.

The Word is what I could not live without,

Of this I have no doubt.

Whether in a forest in a tree,

All by myself, just me.

Whether with all or none,

Anywhere under the sun.

Whether on a desert island or on a plain,

Wherever I am, it keeps me sane.

The Word is more than just a book.

The Word is made up of words,

words that prompt a deeper look.

A deeper look within,

A look at morality and sin.

A look at reality and then,

A decision must be made.

Will you allow for your debt to be paid?

Or will you bear it alone,

Not afraid to be thrown,

Into hell in life and after?

A place devoid of all love and laughter.

I have made the choice,

And it allows me every day to rejoice.

I have hidden the Word in my heart,

That my sin might not tear me apart!

What darkness and evil and woe,

Without the Word I would surely know.

A “word person,”

Yes, I go by that name.

words to me are more than a game.

They burn bridges and build walls.

They line dark prison halls.

They are silent of their own accord,

Yet speak louder than the weight of the heaviest sword.

They leave memories and scars,

They attribute quality to stars.

They don’t seek to help or to hurt,

They just are, ready to be molded from the dirt,

Like Adam from the dust.

Why is it that in words we trust?

They hold meaning, but they can be full of holes.

They have the power to encourage and destroy souls.

They rip, they tear, they shred,

They can lead a person to choose to be dead.

Even so,

The words can lead me to believe,

That the pain can be alieved.

That I am not a hopeless mess.

They can curse, but they can also bless.

Some of the words can make me bigger, brighter, better!

But without the Word, I am yet a debtor.

The Word is not the same as the words.

It brings Life! It brings Hope!

It allows me to cope!

Yes, words have power, it is good to remember.

But the Word is the greatest power – it brings me to surrender.

The Word is my breath,

What keeps me from death.

Without it my soul would know no rest.

The Word.

I tried to submit a video, but I couldn't. I am currently on a study abroad in Peru, and the internet here often does not allow me to upload large files. If Power Poetry would like a video later, please let me know! Thanks.
