The Words of Another

Poetry changed my life,

Poetry set me free and let me fly,

Poetry taught me to love myself and never cry,

Poetry has forever changed my life.

Without poetry I would be caged,

Without poetry I would live an opposite life,

Without poetry I would be living in a lie,

Without poetry I’d be in a different parade.

Just like Maya Angelou, I rose,

I was not broken by the words of hate,

I will not let people call me straight,

Just like Maya Angelou, I rose.

Thanks to poetry I found the courage to come out,

Break the walls of what I once called real life,

Now calling myself gay, I can be free,

Poetry helped me come out without a doubt.
