Words Are Power

The words in my head

Become my walls

They push in, crushing me

I paint the words in red

Well, marker, on my wall

But they’re not the same as in my head

In my head, they kill me

On my wall, they heal me

As they take shape as poetry

And suddenly, when the words

are around me, I find

I know how to be okay

I learn that words are power

More than letters, they’re emotions

They’re love. Pain. Sadness. Joy.

Mostly, they’re freedom.
