My bare face isn't pretty.
My eyelids don't sparkle without eye shadow,
my skin isn't clear without concealer,
and my lips aren't bold without lipstick.
My naked soul isn't nice.
In the early mornings I am grumpy,
when tragedy strikes I get angry,
when I am overwhelmed I weep,
and can only hear the sounds of my own heartache.
On my own, all I am is a broken and empty soul.
But I have been made beautiful and radiant.
My eyes don't need eye shadow to sparkle,
my skin doesn't need powder to glow with joy,
and my lips don't need color to give way to laughter.
And I have been loved and I learn to love.
Mornings help me see that darkness soon gives birth to light,
when there is trouble I understand the despair of others,
and it's only when my blood boils and I snap,
that I can truly learn to forgive and let live.
Pretty can not describe my spirit that glows.
Nice can not describe the love I want to give others.
But words can attempt to describe me,
if they are as true and real as the interworking of my soul,
and as burning as the fire in my bones.
