Words Cannot Describe
Words cannot describe
how I ached for you-
I spoke with quivering lips
and fluttering eyes
and blissful sighs-
And the unfortunate thing about love
is that Love is blind,
never deaf.
Love can decipher
a confession the sound
of pin drop in
a raucous room,
Love listens.
Once upon a time
I had a voice
you loved enough
to marry upon hearing.
Once upon a time,
I was naive enough
to believe you had to have known
that voice belonged to me.
I went to your wedding
speechless, the woman
inches from you
murmuring: “I do,”
with a voice I no longer owned.
I couldn’t even object-
my sobs were as silent as
an unheard pindrop.
Words cannot describe
the pain of my heartbreak.
