The words hit you like

The words hit you like a punching bag

Revealing a deep truth you knew all along but were to afraid to admit

But the truth comes out- be it through words on a page or out someone's mouth

No one will accept it until it is served like a strikingly spicy dish

Exact, overwhelming and blunt

It flavor stinging your tongue, forcing tears out of your eyes, heating up your ears

And always, always- you are forced to swallow it down

But it doesn't have to be that way- a slow painful process

You can accept it by seeking the message of a poem

A message that contains the truth that needs to be told

If you are bold enough, you won't have to swallow it down

But instead can invite it to tea like an old friend you haven't visited with in a long, long time.
