Words I can't say

To the one who was there

Since day one,

You’ve ended up being the one I love

You’ve taken up space

I can’t look at your face

Without blushing or bringing a smile

Songs have been written, stories have been told

About the feeling that I now hold

But what really hurts and pains me the most

Is that I can never tell you

Years, months and days have gone by

And you’ve still been by my side

Through all we’ve seen and done and been

Together I feel that we always win

I’ve gotten bolder and you’ve grown older

But the pain still hurts inside

As I’ve seen another become your lover

And you simply pass me by

And now we’re here one last time

Your eyes gaze into mine

The pain from within

Rises again

As we both say our goodbyes

Alone I stay

You're the one that got away

And I silently curse

That simple verse

An “I love you” that was never told
