The Words I Never Said

The words I never said began with I,

ended with you

was filled with love

The words I never said were smothered by my kisses

embraced by my hugs

The words I never said lie next to you each night

and woke up next to you each morning

And yet I couldn't say the words

The words I never said grew jealous

whenever you were near or far

The words I never said were hopelessly hoping

for you to acknowledge the open door

But you didn't. And from within, it got cold.

Now the door is shut, chained with lock and key

And the words I never said are now buried deep within me.
