The Words of the Lost

Dear My Lost Love,

Remember when we were together?

You made me happy.

I mean,

I was happy before,

But you brought a light into my life,

You pulled me out of my sheltered place,

My safe place,

And showed me new parts of life.

We were happy as two,

But then,

We became one,

And I was happy but unsettled,

It was new and different,

I was no longer me,

I had something more.

I did all I could to keep you happy,

But you wanted a lot,

I tried to give you want you wanted,

Yet it was never enough,

You decided to take what you wanted,

You heard what I said yet you did not stop.

You were no longer a part of me,

You were a cancer slowly killing me,

Your words cut into my soul,

Your touch sent shivers up my spine,

Yet I stayed,

For all I could think of was how someone,

Who once made me so happy,

Would betray me.

I was broken,

I was lost,

I was no longer me.

I had to find me,

To rid myself of the cancer,

I had to cut it out,

Yet with that cut,

I lost another part of me.

So here I am,

Still searching for me,

Who I was,

And who I am meant to be,

And while I search for something to replace my lost piece,

I try to learn how to fill it myself.

But maybe,

If I had never lost that piece,

To that destructive cancer,

I would never find that new piece,

That perfect fit,

To make me whole again.

Sincerely,

Your old friend
