The Words Out of Her Mouth, The Thoughts in Her Heart
He says he loves her so much.
He loves her so much that it hurts.
Somedays she can’t remember how things should be.
It all starts and ends the same.
There are these pauses between sleep where her breath hitches
And though her heart beats there’s nothing to it.
Her hand runs along all the scars he’s given.
She counts on the other,
All the reasons why he’s forgiven.
She converses with ghosts often.
Stares at walls like they’re there.
Always looking for hope in things that she’s lost in.
Afraid of what happens if there’s nothing there.
Some days she remembers waking up
Remembering how things should be,
And that’s why she decides to stay.
He says that he loves her so much,
And that’s why it has to hurt.
Love is forgiving.
But forgiveness does not mean overlooking pain.
Love does not relive painful memories.
Love is not controlling.
Love does not demand that you change.
Love is not founded in fear.
Love means I trust you to stay.
Love is not selfish.
But it doesn’t mean giving until there’s nothing left to take.
Love doesn’t make you feel
Alone.
