words on paper

you wrote me:

“you are my queen”

and in that moment

i realized

but how did you know

that my heart

my soul

my mind

would belong to you

as it does now

and i fell

that day

when you called me your queen

were we rulers?

lovers?

or an arranged marriage of fate?

of destiny?

and what did you mean by it

why did i fall for that line

i let it echo through my mind

fell for the uncertainty

for the possibility

with a self destructive subconscious

and a willingness

to give in to the king

to give up everything

we are above that

yet below reality

halfway between infatuation

and a love you take seriously

so to use that phrase

that haunts my mind

that keeps me awake

with all the possibilities

compared to the realities

because you called me your queen

but it didn’t say you loved me
