Words (Paper Cranes and Iron)

Paper cranes fall on my page

With butterflies with paper wings

To call to mind the brightest days

Or at least to describe them

Iron words weighting my page

With ravings, while I'm half awake

To fill my mind and make it pay

And thereby to explain it

Metaphor and simile

The language of crueler faeries

I steal their words to show them me

Both are a twisted perfect

And my words I lay to rest

For looking back is for the weak

There are more paper cranes to press

I must write another page
