Words With Power
It's funny how a couple of rhymes can make me feel better.
How a few stanzas can keep me warm as if a sweater.
When the world feels like it's falling apart...
When all is silent but a beating heart...
When all I have is a puddle of tears...
When I tell myself how "I don't want to be here"...
I pick up my pencil and start to write,
I write all day and write all night-
Trying to create the perfect rhyme.
Trying to write about how I feel at the time.
Trying to write out all my pain.
Trying to keep myself from going insane.
And it works...
And that's just one of the perks.
With poetry, I have learned...
That depression can definitely take its turn...
On everyone but only hits a few.
In a world of yellow so many are blue.
I did not know that before...
But with poetry I have learned more.
I've learned about myself in so many ways,
By the power of words and strength of a phrase.
I've learned that I am not alone.
That depression is deep within other's core and bones.
I learned how to cope with my stress...
I learned how to feel less depressed.
It just takes a clever rhyme with a couple of lines.
Then I'll start to feel better and fine.
I'm not the best poet, but poetry keeps me stable.
And it's with poetry that I am able...
To share my world and share my conquest.
To share that I'm doing my very best.
To show my truth, to share my confessions.
To show other people suffering with depression...
That there are solutions that don't involve dying at the end.
That they are not alone and have a friend.
Poetry has taught me that words mean so much...
That a few words have the power to touch...
People's deepest, darkest emotions and fears,
Then with their power, make them disappear.
