Words Take F L I G H T

It’s a challenge and an outlet.

I can release my deepest thoughts but sometimes vulnerability is scary.

Poetry teaches me to use my creative side,

That I don’t have to be wary of stacks and stacks of rules--

But instead I can breathe and just let my words

Take flight.

Oh, it is beautiful.

Oh, it is freeing.

Oh, it gives me the same feeling as standing in the

Middle of a field with gusts of cool

Breezy air. Except that it’s much more convenient.

If poetry were a person I would treat it out for ice cream.

I would tell it that it’s dependable.

It does not judge, it will not lie.

It is something rare to come by.

But I am glad that I have found it. In poetry my

Heart takes delight.

So I will keep on writing and letting my words

Take flight.
