Words Will Always Connect

We both laid down on the boardwalk under a yellow pink sky

giggling and talking

i could stay here with you forever

here you told me about your first boyfriend then

your first girlfriend and

when your cat died

i told you about my first kiss and

when i got lost in disney world and

my first tattoo

you’d hand me a piece of saltwater taffy you lifted from the candy store while i bought us sprites

we’d eat and drink till our stomachs ached

i often think of those times as i grab a sprite from my fridge and look out my city window

at my yellow pink sky,

your’s right now is a bright blue

i unwrap my first piece of taffy waiting

for a phone call

to hear what’s new with you
