The Work of the Halloween Witch
On a dark night
Under a harvest moon
I dance in the moonlight
Around a cauldron waiting
A snap of my fingers
And a fire is blazing
I add a pinch of this
And a dash of that
I mix in the teeth of a vampire
And the blood of a bat
And with a twirl I begin to chant
Smoke rises from the pot
Curling like a snake
Ready to strike me dead on the spot
But before the deadly strike
A noise appears
And the snake smoke vanishes
I lean over to see and hear
The children trick or treating
Knocking on doors and hunting for
The candy that tonight they will be eating
With a cackle and a wave of the hand
I add some tricking to tonight’s treating.
For I am the Halloween Witch
And tonight is my night for tricking.
