To Work Hard
To Work Hard
I start the day in the usual way,
Wake up and stretch and quietly say,
“There’s much work to be done, but that’s ok,”
Because it’s good to work hard
I pick up my hammer, or pencil or hoe,
And ‘fore too long to labor I will readily go,
It may take some time, but I smile and know,
That it’s good to work hard
The day can be long, and the sun can be hot,
And sometimes my strength fails and my energy’s shot,
But I can push through more often than not,
And it’s good to work hard
And at the end of the day when my body is tired,
I lay down my load and my hoe is retired,
And I thank God for all that’s transpired,
Because it’s good to work hard
