Working Class Life

Open your eyes to world,

Eagerly,

Step foot in your new surroundings,

Carefully.

First you notice,

The lack of heat,

Next you notice,

Not much to eat.

Home life is chaotic,

Nothing to be found,

Make to do with what you have,

Another hand me down.

Over the pond,

Known by a different name,

Trailer park living,

Pretty much the same.

School is starting,

Excitedly,

Realise your the odd one out,

Tatty clothes for all to see.

No educational guidance,

For you,

From parents,

Who don't have a clue,

Reading books,

And study,

Have you gone,

Nutty,

School is a distraction,

From the problems at home,

School is welcome,

I don't want to go home.

Too tired to think,

Too sad to speak,

Too hungry to learn,

Too angry wait my turn.

Other Kid's in school,

See you don't play,

They don't understand,

Feels like hell everyday.

Mum constantly stressed,

Bills to pay,

Dad constantly pissed,

So much to say.

Get the wrong advice,

So bitterly,

Envious of those,

Easier journey.

Get a dead end job,

To make ends meat,

Tired feet and eyes,

Pay day in a week.

Money is tight,

Becomes a constant at night,

Distract yourself,

Drugs seem alright.

Smoke some weed,

Drink some beer,

Inhale some crack,

Class A will make you forget.

Crime becomes a buzz,

First positive feeling in years,

Crime brings money,

Keeps away the tears.

Know it is so wrong ,

No choices for me,

No opportunity out there,

Eternally.

It's a thin dangerous line,

Walking carefully,

Working and taking drugs,

What else is there to be.

Come to my senses,

No partying for me,

Parental responsibility,

Still feel bad internally.

Working in a factory,

On a mundane job,

Working until it hurts

Need to pay for a new hob.

Battling to survive,

Normally,

Head just above water,

Tony Robbins please help me.

Arguments abound,

Partner and me,

No spare money,

This can't be.

Smoking and beer,

Helps to clear,

The crap feeling inside,

Desperation is clear.

Twisted at the weekend,

Consistently,

Escapism is normal,

That come down feeling.

Violence is common,

In our society,

Black eyes, and nose broken,

Regularity.

Knifes, Guns,

Stabbings, and shootings,

Gang warfare is common,

Incredulity.

This is it,

Can't you see,

Working class life is your stamp,

Want to join me?

WestLondonMan

Like a lot of us been through shitty parts in my life. In 2018 I was living in London, attending a part time acting school. It was a great time. Also I was presenting at an event, one of the tutors at the acting school took me under his wing and mentored me. Part of that process he taught me how to write poetry, or at least express myself through it. Now, I write a poem every day, I write for a hobby. I've had a varied career, the only thing I can say is writing is the best things I've ever done. I absolutely love it. Have got 14 publications on a short story website and launching my own website in December 2022, http://www.PeterGreenhall.com Feel free to add any comments. I hope you enjoy reading my poems as much as I enjoyed putting them together.
