Working On Habits
You need a certain Consistency
To let you plant and perhaps receive
Truly non-clichéd fruit for your labors
Sprouted from such diligent behaviors.
But I don’t mean the lame Indolence
That you might brag about to your friends.
I’ll be honest – and please excuse my tone –
Your lack of effort’s impressing no one.
It’d be nice to uphold a glow of Compassion
That burns through each unconscious decision.
Although being filled with constant warmth
Can consume more fuel than might seem worth.
While rare is the day-to-day Egocentrism
That encases one within a self-lit prism,
Just always keep in mind that there’s yet
Worlds of value beyond your own head.
Some people are simply born with Candor
That guides sight, controls muscles, and weaves words.
Through them it flows naturally, but for the average person’s part,
Being honest with others is hard, even more so with your heart.
It’s easy to get caught up in the Acrimony
That festers and infects both the self and enemy.
Yet despite all the reasons to remain bitter,
There’s always one to just smile and hope for better.
But I could ramble on forever about the proper Quotidian.
If you don’t take note, it’ll make no difference in the end.
Life’s really only decided by what people choose –
As for your own set of habits: it’s all up to you.
