The World

Look around.

See the hurt in people's soul.

Maybe we can be different.

Maybe we can change.

What happened to "Treat others the way you want to be treated."?

It's the "Golden Rule".

Maybe if it was a "Penny Rule" everyone would use it.

Everyone owns at least a penny.

I would stop hate.

I would stop sadness

I would stop pain.

I would stop anger.

I wish I could help people open their eyes to the world around them.

But people still treat others unfairly.

And sickness and disease still exist.

And people still fight in wars.

I wish I could soak up the abundant agony from everyone.

Then only I would suffer,

But it would be worth it,

Because when people smile, I smile.

The world would be happy.

The world would be generous.

The world would be caring.

The world would be kind.

People could go to the park.

Maybe eat their favorite icecream while watching their favorite show.

They'd be more understanding and compromising of those around them.

Everyone could see "How the other half lives." *

Everyone would listen with an open mind,

And try to understand exactly what someone has to say.

We'd respond with specific word choice

And avoid a conflict.

I would change the world.

* "How the other half lives." is a refrence to the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Playwrites are Dick Scanlan and Richard Morris.
