The World and Us

He was just a babe

Yet I could count his ribs

Head flattened from orphanage cribs

He stared at me

I shrank away in fear

Wishing his image would disappear

He remained real

The world did him wrong

Preying on those who can't be strong

It was all a lie

Those stupid nursery rhymes

No lullabies just starving cries

The world doesn't care if babies die

But he survived

Kind people took pity

Rejecting the ways of a merciless city

He'll be alright

This world may be unfair

But it's taught me that you have to choose to care
