The World Is Calling

That moment. It's singular and pronounced. Where your wants change. The subtle change. Swift.

The transfer to adult wasn't defined by the increase in work, the responsibility of money, or the bodily development they told us about in grade school. No. My moment was when I thought about the planet as a whole.

When China put a limit on the amount of children a couple may have.

When it was anounced that America throws out billions of pounds of food, and millions still starve.

When millions of pounds of dead sea creatures were washed up on Florida beaches, because the temperature was so warm that a deadly bacteria was impossible to stop.

When Chicago was so cold that it's unsheltered homeless froze to death.

The moment it all clicked that the climate was changing and we humans were endangering ourselves. Our ability to breathe, consume food, drink water. When I decided to make less trash, eat less meat, and reduce my energy cost. That was my moment.

My planet came first, the billions of people I never met came first. The planet is in need. I heard it. I responded.
