A World So Wide

We are limited to what we see and influenced by what we know

But when we open our eyes, we can see a whole world a glow.

I didn’t know more than what surrounded me,

White picket fence, dogs, and cherry blossom trees.

I believed everyone lived a life just like me,

Nice and happy with a family gleaming with glee.

But to my dismay one regular school day,

My teacher had unlocked the world’s differing cultural ways.

I was amazed by the variety of life

So much around the world, a plethora of human drive.

Yet how did I get so lucky to have both a mom and dad

Running water, food for every meal, and a roof over my head?

I was happy to be exposed to the several cultures filling our world

But I was distraught by the pain it also served.

So many humans suffer every day

Without food, water, and no voice to give a say.

I became grateful for all that I had

I was truly lucky therefore determined to make others just as glad.

I dedicated my high school times

To study more and in hopes that in my future I can donate every single dime.

I was focused on giving back

Because the world around me is amazing and the people further prove that.

I know now that beautiful mysteries are in hidden confines

And Inside, every person is amazing and fully deserves a wonderful life like mine.
