The World Today

They say if you're not angry

you're not paying attention

and, hell, if that's not the truest statement I've ever heard

look around you

what do you see?

I see misogyny

entitlement

misunderstanding

false accusations

discrimination;

what I see is a world full of hate

a world full of petty disagreements

a world full of misinformed masses

a world where beauty is more important than health

where starving yourself to look “fit” is commonplace

where people think the only way to make it to the top is through lies and scandal

a world where that mentality reigns true

when will it end?

When will equality be more important than protecting a reputation?

When will girls stop fearing for their lives when they turn a boy down?

When will people feel safe regardless of their race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation?

When will life equate freedom?

Equate peace?

Equate love and hope?

When will the fighting end?

I'm an exercise science major at Willamette University with a passion for poetry. I'm pre-med and I'm hoping to pay for college at least in part by showing who I am through my poems. Get to know me better through them, not through a bio.
