As the World Turns

Things happen, people change

They disappoint, get disappointed

It's never enough to say you matter

That you mean the world to me

Pain, then realization:

Love comes, hate leaves

Or so it seems

When love leaves, there is no relief

Nothing to keep the dreaded hate at bay

Push everyone back, retreat into your shell

Everyone will think you're weak

Act normal and they think you're emotionless

That you don't care

Life goes that way, but the world keeps turning

People keep moving, but you are stuck in place,

Reliving the time you first locked eyes

Then, you move on

The world turns

You turn

The world holds its breath as it happens again

You lock eyes with the next one

The world keeps moving

It doesn't slow down for you
