The World We Have

My whole life I’ve been told

That I would always make my parents proud,

     No matter the circumstances,

       No matter the outcome.

My academic success was the topic at the time,

But the weight I now bear is heavier than my own.

I am holding the whole planet on my shoulders.

Instead of aiming for that impossible perfect score,

I now aim for the impossible task of saving the planet

    From its most advanced inhabitants.

                    The ozone is depleting,

            The climate is heating,

            Ecosystems are dying,

                    Yet nobody is helping.

I am the voice the struggling organisms don’t have,

The scream from the Earth’s core,

                                        The warnings from the scientsits,

We will no longer be ignored.

The survival of the environment is what inspires us to keep going,

Despite the backlash we face from industries who desire to keep growing.

The future of Earth has been stolen,

                                  And humans are the thieves.

And I know my opinions may display me as spiteful,

But the future is in my hands

And for that I am prideful.
