The World We Live In

The world is one of darkness,

cold, damp, and rotting,

decaying beneath our weary feet,

sinking at our every step,

exuding the distincitvely pungent odor of depravity.

We tread on,

plagued by fatigue,

searching for something unknown, something different.

We see nothing,

and hear only the sound of our steps being absorbed by the rotting growth.

We imagine hills and hills of this endless torture,

of this ongoing land of human vice.

Then, it hits us.

A light, blindingly bright, scatters the shadows.

The soggy mush beneath us begins to harden.

To our disbelief, the decay changes hue from gray to brown.

Tender tendrils of bright verdant grass poke their way through the soil.

Perhaps the world is not so dark after all.

The world is also one of light,

warm, sunny, and full of hope,

firm beneath our treading feet,

growing stronger with each step,

perfumed by the burgeoning flowers of hope.

We carry on,

empowered by resolve,

on our newfound path.

We see everything,

and hear our steps quickening their pace.

We imagine mountains and mountains of this bright world,

of this shadowless realm of human kindness.
