Worlds Apart

You once told me that we would never meet because we were from two different worlds I had to think on this for a while The time we shared was enjoyable But your interests are a great stray from mine Our goals are in opposite directions I thought to myself before “I wish I could have shown her my piece of Earth And why I am traveling down the road I walk. Would it change the way that she thought, I wonder.” I once told you that my intention was not to change you Not to sway you from your beliefs, values, or customs Not to stop your behaviors I find disagreeable I told you that I wasn’t sure if you’d be willing to see The world I am living in We came from interesting situations But there are a variety of differences If I had stayed with my previous lifestyle I’d be homeless, dead, or involved with crime I’d be that despicable nobody that society can only kick to get me out of the way I’d have been living directionless only hoping to make it to the next day, the next hour, the next minute The ease of comfort was nice The freedom you feel is great The inhibitions to let yourself go make you who you are But we are living in worlds apart I appreciate what you shared with me What we’ve done The conversations we’ve had But I also know that you were lying to me About little things here and there It’s funny for me to see that unrelated to this a friend posted “What’s worse? Someone who lies to you Or someone who feels you’re stupid enough to believe those lies?” It made me smile, knowing that I just let them slide by Why did I let them go I really couldn’t say I suppose your actions were what I was looking for more than your words Either way, I noticed the changes as you’re settling back into who you were Unchanged by the experiences previously I am conflicted due to wanting to show you My piece of earth but not wanting to have you change due to me I am conflicted due to missing you Although I have not seen, talked, let alone heard from you I ask myself why So this is what I wanted to say to you I agree that we are worlds apart I see that we are so very different I want to thank you for what you have shared with me I want to see you off as a smiling memory I hope your endeavors play to the choices you desire And that you find your success in your scale of measurement I want to say thank you and goodbye If you ever wander to my side of the world Feel free to say hi again Otherwise, be all you can be
