The Worst Fear Alive

MOTHER AND FATHER,

When is doing something wrong

Equivilent to doing something right?

This is the question I would love for you to answer.

For to me, this question

Is but another secret in life

If you had an answer to many of the secrets in life

Surly you would share them,

Sadly though, I remain as confused as the next teenage girl who roams this earth

Though there is one thing I am sure of

We teenagers think

Alot.

We worry that,

As we grow to express our opinions,

Those very opinions have been wrongly influenced,

And will be abolished with shame, or excused as paranoia

We worry that,

The opinions we've thought of,

Are so crazy no one will bother to hear them.

We let those worries keep us silent most of our lives

I can admit that I am afraid of many things

From not being true to myself

To forgeting who I am

Of course there are also those little fears

like the dark, or spiders

But I am certain of one thing.

The worst fear alive.

We teenagers sit and ponder this fear

We let it control us and drag us around to the point of madness

We seem to believe that you who watch over us

Have forgotten this fear, and the opinions you shared as children

So we don't reach out for help

The greatest fear alive is the rejection,

The refusal to acknowledge,

The disagreeances,

The hatred.

The greatest fear alive is of the consiquences for our mistakes

We sit and ponder ways to do things right

And to avoid that fear

We keep silent

To avoid that fear

We let our pondering drag us into making mistakes that worsen our fear

We teenagers don't realize

That you who've raised us were once teenagers yourselves

Teenagers who, like us

Were so afraid

Of what those who watched you thought

That you made the same mistakes

We keep quiet and ponder our fear of failure

Our fear of letting you down

That we don't see that you've feared the same

That you fear the same every time you look at us.

That is why it is the worst fear alive.

Because it blinds us, and controls us

But most importantly,

It teaches us.

There is only one thing is strive for

And that is,

to make you proud.

LOVE ME,

YOUR DAUGHTER
