The Worst Possible Outcome
The end of senior year coming to a close
and graduation just a week away.
Playing basketball she jumps to block the ball and everyone knows
as she clatters to the ground, the game put on delay.
A numbness spreads to her knee that she can't explain.
She trys to hold back the tears, hiding he face from others.
All of a sudden it hits her like a ton of bricks; oh the pain!
A late night trip to the hospital with her worried boyfriend and mother.
Alas, the news is grim.
Torn ligaments and shattered bone is all that remains in the cavity of her left knee.
The girl glances down at the wreckage of her limb
and makes a simple plea.
"Please tell me everything will be alright?"
The doctor smiles sadly and says the road ahead will be rough.
Graduation night is apon us all and the girl accepts her diploma on crutches.
Sure enough,
one week later the girl is in surgery.
Her dreams for college put on hold for a year while she endures seven months of physical therapy.
She looks for a way to hold on to her dreams.
Knowing one day she will succeed.
