Worth It
I can hear your heart as it pounds restlessly.
Your desires are laid out before me;
I see each and every one.
Above all, I know you long to hear two simple words.
To know, without a doubt, that you are
worth it.
I watch you as you wonder,
looking everywhere for a glimpse of that treasured phrase.
You work endlessly in front of the mirror,
hoping to become the fairest of them all.
Maybe, just maybe, if you can impress this piece of glass,
then you will be
worth it.
You look to others for messages of approval.
Climbing the social ladder,
hoping to win them over.
For surely once you feel loved by those around you,
you will feel
worth it.
Yet, the more you try the harder it seems.
I watch and my heart breaks, as I wait for you to listen.
To listen to my still, small voice.
A voice that whispers,
“I knitted you together in your mother’s womb.”
A gentle voice saying,
“For I know the plans I have for you.”
Telling you, that you are
worth it.
I spread out the Heavens, and put the stars in place.
I numbered the hairs on your head,
planned out the days of your life with care.
All to show you that you are
worth it.
Sweet daughter, please listen to my voice.
I came down to this earth, humbling myself to humanity,
becoming a lowly carpenter that was mocked and scorned.
I was beaten, and my arms spread wide upon a cross.
I died the death of a criminal,
so that you may never doubt, that you are
worth it
