Worth Missing
How?
How did we get from Point A to Point B?
Did I misread the directions?
I thought we were driving together,
In the same car,
On the same road.
But maybe we were,
And that's just it:
I traced the pages of the road map beneath my delicate fingers,
And you tracked our path impatiently on the GPS screen.
We might have been taking the same roads,
But if felt like we were traveling in different directions.
We might have been going to the same place,
But in the end we decided our trip wasn't worth the travel.
We divided up the blame.
I took my road map;
You took your car.
You're riding free and I'm walking in freedom.
I admit, I wasn't ready to lose you,
But now that I look around,
I'd much rather my feet ache,
Than even try to hunt you down.
The truth is that I'll miss you,
And the fresh, eternal, summer-love smell of your car.
But I'd rather have the smell of the fresh air and a broken heart,
Than the tender, loving embrace of your arms.
