Four short years ago when I came out for the sport I have come to love,
I found a coach who nudged us freshman towards our goals even if it took a gentle shove.
You have taught me a lot about who I have grown to become as a person,
Without the leadership you’ve provided my conditions would surely worsen.
Through the good and bad workouts, rain or shine,
You’ve helped us gain the perseverance necessary to prepare us when we reach the race line.
You’ve shown that there is more to this sport than just running miles,
But of becoming a team and above all to make our high school experience worthwhile.
You’ve shared your knowledge of this sport that keeps us coming back,
To be with friends or become a faster runner and race at the front of the pack.
Equipped with Coach Evans our cross-country family, numbers fifty-three,
Closer than a team, a group of sisters whose unity none of us could foresee.
You’ve taught us that each level of our team counts, from Frosh-Soph to Varsity and JV,
We cheer on our teammates and push them to give it their all, leaving out nobody.
If anything can be learned from an experience like cross-country it’s to always pursue,
A dream or a goal with a family and coach like this who will always support and encourage you.
You’ve lead us through sprints, weight room, and tough training, which we’ve built up the strength,
To complete each workout to the best of our ability, no matter what the length.
Our team is not perfect, we have had our share of defeat and victory,
Of runners hurt and of them out for the season because of injury.
Through lectures you’ve taught us to do our homework ranging from icing to stretching,
To prevent a fault in our season, a goal surely worth setting.
Together six days a week we’ve dedicated our time and even endured Killer hill,
A feat necessary to reach a new PR, a goal we dedicated ourselves to fulfill.
With fresh new legs and determination, a state title is ours for the taking,
Of earning our spot on the podium, earning 1st place and a legacy worth awakening.
With the leadership you’ve provided, you’ve have become my second family, unlike any other,
Although I had been forced to come out for the team because of my parents and brother.
Coach Evans always teaches us to set our goals high and to believe,
Of championships and titles through hard work which we could achieve.
When it comes to racing we cannot be missed on the various courses,
From our yellow singlets to our ponytails swaying like a pack of racehorses.
Our shabooyas, bus rides, and traditions, which are surely unforgettable,
To the seniors last Marmonte league meet whose xc experience is inexpressible.
Although this is my last year of high school and of the Simi Pride,
I’ll always remember the memories made together and the journey we endured through this ride.
