Worthy of Love

My spirits are lifted by the warm smile of my lover Only to be dashed when blame is laid for this Love once given so free and passionately under the stairs Is now seldom visited for more than forgetting the wisdom won by life The wisdom gained together that love is not just the passion But the patience we share with each other despite ourselves As I lie here with her wearing only the sheet and the wind through the window I do not remember what it was that brought us here only that it does not matter But in whom did the blame lie? In truth, probably both and it doesn’t matter who is closer to the monopoly on that We have each other, and cliché as it may sound, that really is all that matters to me Not that it fixes everything, but it gives us everything we need to fix everything I have found the greatest love of my life and I do not deserve her We both know it, I remember it, and she does not care I have cheated on her and lied to her and when caught she has forgiven me For what I have to thank for this great fortune I know It is her love for me that gets her past my short falls It is this knowledge that causes me to seek her worth My wisdom as a youth was fueled by sex and the lust for it As a man my wisdom has been fueled by the drive to be one A boy lusts after things he believes he is worth But a man loves things which he knows he is not Forgiveness did not make me want to hurt her again It made me want her more It is not the desire I felt for her in my loins when we met that must be fed. It is the desire to poses a truly unique and precious treasure. She is precious to me for the pleasure I receive from her, yes! I would lie if I told you otherwise, but it is so much more now. What I want is her quirks, her beauties, and her essence I want to be the man worth standing by her
