Would You?

If I asked you the hard questions,

Demanded answers too,

Would you stick around to ponder them

And let your character show through?

What about the horrid nights

When even breathing seems a chore,

And all that I can tell you is

My brain is waging war?

Will you listen to my queer ideas

And far-fetched observation,

Or would you rather have the guarantees

Of shallow conversation?

Do you care for theology

In the wee hours of the morning,

Or how about deep discussion

Without a shadow of forewarning?

This what my heart is made of,

But if you don't fancy this arrangement

Please spare us both a heartbreak

And pursue a new engagement…
