Wounded Heart

My mother was amazing when I was kid

She worked hard and cared

Laughing and playing is all that we did

She was always there when I was scared

As I grew older she grew more distant

And she split away from my dad

Her depression became more consistent

And me and my brother where all that we had

Over time I thought she would get better

As time healed the wounds of the divorce

But the sadness didn't let her

And she couldn't find the source

I knew I couldn't be around it forever, it was hard to see

She was tearing me apart

The feelings she had were rubbing off on me4

Nothing would help her wounded heart

I had to mature

I had to stop living in fear

I needed to live somewhere secure

I couldn't stay with her for another year

The day I moved out of my mother's home

Is the day that grew me as a man

I didn't feel scared, controlled, or alone

I was just glad I ran
