Write.
Write. Write to unlock the thoughts, the ideas,
the elements which harness you to an empty page.
Use the pencil. Use that lead to open that steel lock—
which encases your feelings, your emotions, your thoughts.
Write to free your imagination and put it to use—
put yourself in tropical paradise,
away from the grimy city streets filled with cruel stares.
Write to dream. Free yourself from your present situation—
get caught up in the details of your future reality,
immerse yourself in the light you shall cast years from now.
Don’t write because you are told to. That writing releases alien invaders—
foreign objects which devour your thoughts and words.
Forced or obligatory writing is not writing.
Writing is what keeps you up late at night.
Writing is words clawing at your bed post—
and not ceasing until they are written down.
Writing is an anchor, a necessary release of dead weight
made up of thoughts, emotions, scenes and characters stuck in your head.
Writing is not putting words down for an assignment or a grade.
Writing is writing because without the release
of those thoughts, emotions, ideas, feelings, scenes, and characters—
your life will cease.
Write. Write because you cannot go on living if you don’t.
